Forgive, don't Forget

There was a saying that was printed out and put up above my bed in the hostel dormitory where I did my schooling as a sixth-grade kid. "It read, Everything ends if you forgive and forget." This probably had got deeply rooted in my head as I might have read that every night before I went to bed and was the first thing I read every morning.

Such is a costly mistake. It's good to forgive, at least for your own peace's sake. But is it really wise to forget? I wouldn't suggest that through the bitter experiences I've encountered.

I've read few psychology articles as to why we tend to repeat our mistakes, why we tend to always choose the wrong person, no matter what. I found in my quest that we tend to repeat mistakes and choose the wrong person so perfectly because, we still haven't learned our lesson right. It's the way the brain seasons us to learn from mistakes and perfectly evolve from being imperfect. And we tend to repeat our mistakes until we have perfected ourselves in that regard.

Drawing comparisons to my psychology lessons, it is therefore suggested we must forgive the person who had wronged us, not for their sake, but for the sake of our own peace; yet we must not forget the lesson we had learned.

There's this saying which goes, "everyone comes in our lives to either learn something or to teach us something." So, take the learning and don't you dare forget it.

Forgive, don't Forget, at least as yet!
